12.4 MP backlit CMOS sensor The 12.4 MP backlit CMOS image sensor delivers high-quality, high-resolution images. A state-of-the-art, high-speed Q ENGINE effectively minimizes noises at all ISO sensitivity levels for fine-textured images, even at ISO 12800. Get outstanding autofocus accuracy in low light and pinpoint focus, even at the faintest light level (EV 0).
	Classic, high-grade design The Q-S1 sports a classic, ultra compact design, with meticulous attention to detail, so it's perfect for an unlimited variety of shooting situations. The Quick Dial and grip are made of attractive high-grade aluminum and symmetrically positioned for your comfort. Note the custom look of the leather-textured exterior.
Outstanding operability The Q ENGINE with an optimized algorithm assures quick, flawless response at all phases of shooting, including a fast start-up time (approx. one second). The Quick Dial also lets you assign as many as four favorite functions, including Smart Effects, Aspect Ratio, AF/MF switching, focus assist ON/OFF and ND filter ON/OFF, for instant mode switching.
	Large, 3.0 inch LCD monitor with anti-reflection The Q-S1 features a high-resolution 3.0 inch 3:2 proportion LCD monitor with approx. 460,000 dots. Its AR (Anti-Reflection) coating effectively minimizes glare and reflections on-screen to produce sharp, bright images even under bright sunshine. The wide-view design lets you see the image from 170 degrees horizontally and vertically, giving you a clear view of the on-screen image, even when facing the monitor from an angle.
Effortless bokeh control The Q-S1’s unique Bokeh Control function lets you make a subject stand out by automatically assessing the relative distance between the in-focus subject and obtrusive objects in the field of view. This function simplifies the advanced, SLR-caliber technique of intentional defocusing, so even first-time digital shooters can effortlessly capture high-quality images with beautifully defocused foregrounds and backgrounds.
	Full HD movie recording at 30 fps Capture beautiful Full HD movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps in the H.264 recording format) with minimal noise. Get creative with an interval HD recording function. Take advantage of advanced image-processing tools like the Smart Effect modes* and an array of in-body movie editing tools. We've added the Continuous AF (AF-C) mode,** allowing you to capture a moving subject in sharp focus during movie recording. Frame rate may vary when a selected Smart Effect mode requires nonstandard image processing. *This mode is not compatible with the UNIQUE LENS-series lenses and the 06 TELEPHOTO ZOOM lens.
Simple auto picture & scene modes The PENTAX-original Auto Picture mode auto-selects the most appropriate shooting mode from a range of options like Portrait, Landscape and Macro for a given scene or subject. The Q-S1 optimizes all affecting parameters, such as shutter speed, aperture, white balance, saturation, contrast and sharpness, so you can concentrate on the composition and moment. Includes 21 Scene modes — from Night Scene Portrait to Pet to Backlight Silhouette — represented by simple icons on the LCD monitor. So even an entry-level digital photographer can choose the best exposure settings for a complicated scene or subject.
